In this short tutorial you will learn how to how to compile a java program using the command line.

To start things of we will need a simple Java program. If you dont have it. Use this one. Save it as: DataTypes.java

Compiling

  1. First we need to find a compiler it will be usually found in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152\bin
  2. Find your file DataTypes.java . We have saved it this directory C:\Java
  3. Next open CMD (Command prompt)
  4. Type this line of code: cd C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152\bin
  5. You will end up in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_152\bin>
  6. Next we can type the command to compile. It will be this: javac C:\Java\DataTypes.java
  7. Command line will execute, but nothing will be prompted. In the same location C:\Java you will find a compiled file DataTypes.class
  8. If you want to run this program type: java -cp C:\Java\ DataTypes
  9. That it is.
